Cancer Center patients get an early taste of Thanksgiving

The weather was damp and chilly but the mood was heartwarming as team members at St. Tammany Cancer Center – A Campus of Ochsner Medical Center conducted their annual Thanksgiving food box giveaway to invited patients this week.
By the time this year’s food distribution event ends Friday, 100 patients and their families will have received a Winn-Dixie gift card to be used for a ham or turkey, along with a box stuffed with all the ingredients for a full holiday meal: sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberries, stuffing and the like.
This year’s event was made possible through the generosity of donors to St. Tammany Hospital Foundation, as well as Winn-Dixie, the Northshore Foodbank and the local charity Casey Cares, which used money raised by this year’s Madisonville Gar Rodeo to cover the cost of the gift cards.
